The West Yorkshire Archaeology Advisory Service (WYAAS) are the curators of the Historic Environment Record (HER) for the five unitary authorities of Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds and Wakefield, the districts that formerly made up the metropolitan county of West Yorkshire. The HER consists of a database linked to a geographical information system (GIS), recording over 15000 archaeological and historic sites and buildings within West Yorkshire, and covering all periods from the Palaeolithic to the Cold War. Plus non-computerised aerial photograph collections, maps, archaeological fieldwork reports and a library.
The data available through the Heritage Gateway is a sub-set of the complete data in the HER, it is updated regularly but it is not live. Data derived from the Heritage Gateway is not acceptable for use in detailed Desk Based studies prior to development or land use changes. The data on the Heritage Gateway is not licenced for commercial re-use. If you require more information or wish to use data for commercial purposes, please submit a data request to wyher@wyjs.org.uk. For more information see our website https://www.wyjs.org.uk/archaeology-advisory/.
Our office at Nepshaw Lane South, Morley, Leeds, LS27 7JQ is open to visitors by appointment, (when possible), during weekdays (excluding Bank Holidays).
