The Nottingham City HER and UAD covers all known archaeological interventions and monuments within the city of Nottingham. All Scheduled Monuments, Listed Buildings, many undesignated heritage assets are represented. The HER and UAD provide the most up-to-date records of the city's approximately 840 known medieval and post-medieval man made caves. An extensive library includes local and national books and periodicals, pamphlets, Ordnance Survey and historical maps, cave records, site reports, building surveys, photographic slides of archaeological sites, local directories. The HER and UAD uses Exegesis with GIS link and is a tool for use in the provision of advice about archaeological issues to planners and developers, in developing planning and conservation policies and informing decisions, and in archaeological studies. The City Archaeologist is responsible for archaeology within the whole of the Nottingham City Council authority boundaries.
