Visitor Facilities:

Designated public access PC for consultation of digital records. Library of over 85,000 aerial photographs. Reference library including over 7,000 books, journals and offprints focused on the Historic Environment. HER archive including archaeological reports, illustrations, architectural plans, maps, images and other documentary sources.

Please note that access to our paper and photographic archive is changing due to an ongoing digitisation project. When requesting to view material please provide as much detail as possible and ensure that you allow sufficient time for processing. Many requests may now be processed remotely, sending digital material, but others will still require a visit to our premises. Please note that certain categories of material may be unavailable for limited periods. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. 

Range of information available:

Records of archaeological sites, finds and buildings, including fieldwork reports, mapping, photographs, artefact drawings and other documentary sources.

The Norfolk HER is open to public consultation but appointments must be made in advance. 

Staff are available to assist with enquiries, although their time is limited.

Charges apply to commercial consultants.
